The mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, spoke to the Guardian after 44-year-old paedophile Gail Wright was jailed for two years on Friday (July 15).

Wright, of Elmtree Close in Shireoaks, had previously pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with a child under 16, four counts of causing a child to look at an image of sexual activity and two counts of possessing an indecent photograph of a child.

The mother, who said her son was just 14 at the time of the offences, said: “She took my son’s childhood away from him and destroyed his innocence.

“He’s terrified to go back to school after what has happened.

“He’s convinced that he’s the villain in this situation after a woman was sent down.

“He doesn’t understand that it was entirely her fault and that her actions were wrong and despicable.

“Though we are glad Wright has been punished, myself and the other parents think her sentence was far too short.

“We just hope the message gets out there this can happen to young lads as well as girls.”
