As part of its commitment to promote better workplace health for its employees, Nottinghamshire County Council will be considering plans to create a smoke free working environment for all its employees from May 2016.

The council’s updated Smoke Free Policy will mean council employees will not be permitted to smoke while at work or on council business. The final decision will be taken at the Policy Committee meeting on 20 April.

As an employer, the council has a duty of care to protect the health of all employees. Staff who currently smoke will be encouraged to leave their cigarettes at home and advice, help and support will be offered.
