Bassetlaw MP John Mann says the Parliamentary Transport Select Committee’s decision to back his and other MPs demands for an end to big bonuses for Network Rail executives is the right decision.
Mr Mann backed the call because of what he saw as Network Rail’s “callous disregard” shown to the families of victims who had died on level crossings.
Mr Mann said: “In December 2012 a young girl died on a level crossing in Bassetlaw.”
“I wrote to the Transport Select Committee asking them to investigate Network Rail and their subsequent report was damning.”
“The number of deaths on level crossings is unacceptable, and it is unthinkable that Network Rail would go ahead and award its executives enormous bonuses.”
“Network Rail and the Government should now focus on drastically improving safety at level crossings.”
