Worksop needs a cinema- join the fight

THE WORKSOP Guardian is backing the public's campaign to put pressure on Bassetlaw Council to build a cinema in Worksop.

A resident announced at last week's public meeting that he would be collecting signatures in a protest against the council's decision - and we are behind him 100 per cent.

"I think it's gross incompetency of the Tory council. I want to launch a petition to force the council to carry out its duty," said David Potts, of Farndale, Worksop, who organised the petition.

"The Tesco development should not be allowed to proceed without the cinema. The council is riding roughshod over people's views. That deal was made five years ago and the council has now reneged on their decision and we are going to keep the pressure on the council until the facts about the whole situation is out in the open," said Mr Potts.

"I will be running around the streets to get people behind the petition. We were looking forward to this complex being built and they have just taken it all away from us."

Residents can sign and take a copy of the petition away with them by calling into the Worksop Guardian office on Ryton Street in Worksop.

Forms can be handed back into the Worksop Guardian or sent to Mr Pott's address, which is displayed on the sheets.

We will take all completed petition forms to the council's Potter Street offices at the beginning of August.

And the Worksop Guardian will be demanding to know why an exciting new project for the town has evaporated into thin air and why there seems to be little or no prospect of getting something that has been promised to local people for the last five years.

You can also make your voices heard by clicking here and emailing your name and address and we will add your name to the petition
