Will 'unnecessary' Annesley plans destroy wildlife?
A GROUP of residents are opposing plans to build a new housing development in Annesley Woodhouse — saying it is unnecessary and will destroy wildlife in the area.
Taylor Wimpey wants to build 99 homes on land off Forest Road and submitted the plans to Ashfield District Council last week.
But the Friends of Forest Road has issued a newsletter outlining its objections and is holding a public meeting today at 7.15pm at the church hall on Forest Road and Wesley Street.
Member Bob Collier said: "We believe a brownfield site should be used. We opposed previous planning applications for 94 houses because there would be overbearing three-storey houses on a greenfield site. Now they have 99 houses."
And his neighbour Anne Chalkley said she feared the development would lead to traffic problems in the village.
"I think this will be detrimental to the village because the entrance is not up to Government standards — it is too narrow," she said. "There will be too much traffic for the village — it is bad enough coming out of Annesley Cutting as it is.
"There is also a lot of wildlife such as birds and butterflies at different times of year because it is a greenfield site and there are plenty of brownfield sites in the area where factories have closed."
Yesterday, a Taylor Wimpey spokesman said: "We are committed to working alongside the local community to create a development that will complement and enhance the local area in Annesley Woodhouse."
Anne Chalkey says folk can join her at the fields between 6-8pm on Friday and 10am-noon on Saturday when she will be on hand to meet them and discuss their concerns.
