Warning as Worksop set for heatwave

RESIDENTS across the Worksop area are being urged to stay safe while having fun in the sun.

The warning comes as the Met Office issued its first 'heat health' warning of the summer and its first since 2006.

Weather experts say temperatures will reach highs of 30 C across the East Midlands and that a key factor will be night-time temperatures.

Lows in some areas may not fall below 15 C.

Wayne Elliott, head of health forecasting at the Met Office, said they have been working closely with the Department of Health to develop the 'heat health' warning, as heatwave conditions are expected to rise during the week.

"It will be predominately dry and sunny this week, but the build up of heat and humidity will set off some thunderstorms in parts of the UK," he said.

"Heatwaves can be dangerous, especially for the elderly, those with chronic diseases and the very young. Advice on how to reduce the risk, either for yourself or somebody you know, can be obtained from NHS Direct or your local pharmacist."
