Vintage feel at new tearoom

A lifelong love of baking led a South Anston woman to open up her own tearoom recreating afternoons spent with your granny.
After years working in domestic violence, Lesley Taylor decided to follow her dream and open Granny’s Vintage Tearoom in Todwick.
“I’ve always loved baking and vintage and thought this would be a great way to combine the two,” said Lesley.
“I used to love going to my granny’s house for tea and cake, as a lot of people do, and I wanted to recreate that feel.”
“I wanted the tearoom to feel cosy and welcoming, like stepping into someone’s home.”
And Lesley has certainly achieved that. Everywhere you look there are vintage items - from the tables, chairs and tablecloths, to the floral china.
Lesley spent months scouring antique shops and markets to find the vintage pieces to give granny’s the right feel. And it was on that search that Lesley met Sally Goulty from the Curiosity Vintage shop at Dinnington Indoor Market.
As their businesses complimented each other, the pair decided to team up and Sally now sells her vintage items in the tearoom.
“It seems to work really well. And customers are free to come and just look in the shop without buying anything from the tearoom,” said Sally.
Its not just the decor that will transport you back in time The cakes and other sweet treats on offer are all made using traditional recipes.
The scones are baked fresh every day and are heavenly served with sherry trifle jam and clotted cream. The cakes are baked by Lesley, and there is a good selection of sandwiches and soups for those after something savoury.
Eager to cater for everyone, Lesley and Sally are also busy developing some delicious gluten and dairy free cakes.
Granny’s opened in October, and has already got a loyal following from local people and those from further afield.
“It has been going much better than we ever expected it to,” said Lesley.
“We have got regular customers that come in two and three times a week, and other people who travel quite far to come to us.”
And there are plans for future, with special events and a supper club in the pipeline.
