Turbines arrive at Ulley wind farm

COMPONENTS which will make up the Penny Hill wind farm at Ulley are beginning to arrive on site.
Barlborough-based Banks Renewables began preparatory work on the wind farm in July last year and despite the wet weather, work has progressed on schedule.
The steel tower sections for the turbines are currently being built at the Mabey Bridge factory in Chepstow. The first component deliveries began last week and will continue for around three weeks.
It is expected that the testing and commissioning phase of the project will be completed in the spring of this year.
Phil Dyke, development director at Banks Renewables, said: “Our Penny Hill delivery schedule has been carefully designed to minimise any traffic disruption, and Banks has been working with the local authorities, the police, the Penny Hill community liaison committee and people living in the immediate vicinity to ensure everyone will be kept up to date on when deliveries are scheduled to take place.”

As part of the scheme Banks has set up a fund worth around £20,000 a year - £500,000 across the 25 year lifespan of the wind farm - will enable the company to deliver a range of community and environmental improvements in partnership with local people. The first part of funding is set to become available this summer.
Banks agreed to distribute a notification of the key traffic dates and to implement an email alert service to minimise any traffic disruption caused by the component deliveries. Anyone wanting to sign up to this service should email pennyhill@banksgroup.co.uk.
