South Yorkshire Police and the parents of a woman killed by a texting truck driver have launched a new initiative in her memory.

Jemma O’Sullivan, 22, died when a lorry smashed into the back of her car on the M18 in 2010. The driver had been texting. He was given five years in prison and a five-year driving ban.

Jemma’s parents have funded the Jemma Bear Project. Some 500 teddy bears have been produced in Jemma’s memory to be used by family liaison officers to comfort children involved in collisions.

The launch links with a week-long police operation using an unmarked heavy goods vehicle to identify motorists who are breaking the law.
