Top cop set to retire in the summer

Notts’ second most senior police officer has announced he is to retire this summer.

Deputy chief constable Paul Scarrott will stand down in June.

A recruitment drive will begin this week to appoint his successor, along with a new assistant chief constable following Paul Broadbent’s retirement last year.

Mr Scarrott joined Notts Police as assistant chief con for local policing in June 2010 from West Midlands Police and succeeded Chris Eyre as deputy chief con in May last year. He said the time was now right for him to retire after a 30 year career in the service.

“It has been a difficult decision to reach. The force has made some astonishing improvements in recent years in reducing crime and enhancing community safety,” said Mr Scarrott.

“But it is still on a journey in terms of performance improvement and reorganisation, all against the backdrop of stringent financial circumstances.”

“However, having lived away from home for three years I very much want to spend more time at home with my wife and to see more of my children. And a difficult decision though this has been, I feel it is the right one.”

Chief con Chris Eyre said Mr Scarrott had played ‘an immeasurable role’ in transforming the local policing service and leading the programme of reorganisation and change.
