‘Tax affects the most vulnerable families’

Bolsover Council cabinet member for housing management Coun Keith Bowman said: “We sympathise with people and have written to everyone who will be affected by these changes, encouraging them to contact us so we can help them overcome the problems they are faced with. The Welfare Reform Bill does affect the most vulnerable and hard pressed families, something which cannot be right and proper in the 21st century. The position Mr Rourke finds himself in is through no fault of his own and we are more than happy to discuss his situation and see where we can help him.”

Work and pensions secretary Iain Duncan Smith has until 19th March to respond to Mr Rourke’s appeal.
