Prince Charles visits Welbeck
A WAVE of Union Jacks were held aloft as crowds welcomed the Prince of Wales to Bassetlaw this morning.
Children from Creswell Infant School greeted HRH, who had taken the Royal train ahead of his visit to Welbeck Estate.
Arriving by helicopter, The Duchess of Cornwall joined Prince Charles before the two were escorted to the School of Artisan Food, where they met staff and students.
The school is dedicated to encourage people of all ages to explore the benefits of using local produce with traditional methods of baking, butchery and cheese making.
It was the couple’s first visit to the area.
Student butcher Lisa Lewin, 30, was addressed by the Royals.
She said: “It was really good and exceeded my expectations.”
“Prince Charles asked me how many times I had cut myself - quite a few times until you realise it hurts.”
Their Royal Highnesses also met with students in the bakery and trustees of the Abbey.
Whilst on the estate, the Prince and Duchess unveiled a plaque to commemorate their visit, which was greeted by a warm round of applause.
The Duchess was wearing a raspberry wool coat, black knee-length boots and a grey paisley dress.
Director of the school Alison Swan Parente said on the visit: “It was extremely successful and they were very impressed.”
