North Anston woman launches fibromyalgia support group

A NORTH Anston woman, who spent years suffering from a distressing condition known as fibromyalgia, is now helping others with the same problems.

Veronica Clixby, 67, of Cartmel Walk, experienced aches, fatigue and debilitating pain for years – before the condition was eventually diagnosed by Bassetlaw Hospital.

"It is a debilitating, distressing condition and many people go for long periods of time before they are diagnosed," she said. "I just didn't feel like living anymore."

"At first, doctors would tell me it was just depression. When I read about fibromyalgia, my symptoms just seemed to fit with everything."

In 2007, a rheumatologist confirmed her self-diagnosis, and she now runs a support group. Anyone who would like to join can ring 01909 565037.

In 2007, a rheumatologist at Bassetlaw Hospital confirmed her self-diagnosis, and she was relieved to find she wasn't alone.

"When I found out about the self-help group in Sheffield, it was amazing to meet people who have gone through similar traumas to me."

"I am now the leader of the group and we get about 40 people come along to our monthly meetings in Sheffield."

Anyone who would like to learn more about fibromyalgia or get involved with a support group can call 01909 565037.
