Langold man, 29, dies in car crash - wife's tribute

A LANGOLD man was killed in a road crash on Tuesday night as he travelled home from work.

Rowland Jeffrey, 29, was driving his grey Skoda Octavia when it collided with a bus on the A60 between Oldcotes and Tickhill at about 4.45pm.

Mr Jeffrey, of Markham Road, married just 18 months ago and has been described as 'a wonderful husband' by his wife Amy, 25.

His parents and other family members paid tribute to a man who 'would do anything for anyone'.

Looking back on their life together, Amy said: "Everywhere we went he would always know someone."

"When we were waiting at the airport to go on our honeymoon, he heard a voice behind him and started chatting to someone he knew through work."

"He always gave me anything I ever wanted and he loved all my family just like his own."

His parents Sharon and John, who still live in Todwick, said that losing Rowland will leave a 'big hole' in their lives and they would have to 'pull together' to get through this.

"I never met anyone with a bad word to say about him and he was the sort of person everyone wanted to sit next to at family occasions," said Sharon.

"He really thought everything of Amy. She was just his world. We're all going to miss him so much."

Born in Sheffield on 16th July, 1979, Rowland was brought up in Todwick and went to the village junior school and Wales Comprehensive.

He met Amy when he worked as a bar supervisor at the King William IV Pub on Blyth Road and she was in the kitchen washing the dishes.

They had been together for almost 10 years and married on 5th May 2007, arriving at Carlton's St John's Church in a fire engine.

For their first wedding anniversary last year, Amy 'lived one of her dreams' when Rowland treated her to a hot air balloon flight.

Known affectionately as 'Rowly Bear' to his friends and family, Rowland used to play for Dinnington Rugby Club and was a keen supporter of Sheffield Wednesday.

For the last seven years, he worked as a transport manager for plumbing and building merchants A. E. Spink Ltd in Doncaster.

Following the crash on Tuesday night, the A60 was closed for five hours along Malpas Hill at the junction of Styrrup Lane and Thornbury Hill Lane.

After the road was cleared and crash investigators had examined the scene, the road was reopened at about 11.30pm.

The driver of the single decker bus was taken to Bassetlaw Hospital where he was treated for shock.

There were no other passengers travelling in either vehicle.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has any information relating to it, to contact Det Sgt Steve Eustace at the Notts Police's Crash Investigation Unit on 0115 9670999 ext 2225.

Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
