THERE'S no getting away from it, advertising plays a huge part in all our lives - whether we want it to or not.
But do we really know and understand how it all works?
In an effort to explain why we need to advertise, Worksop Guardian's Lisa Williams and Caroline Eden visited five local schools in an effort to educate some of the pupils.
"Learning all about the media is so important nowadays that is part of the curriculum ," said Lisa.
"So we thought that the best way to educate local pupils was to go into school with a hands-on presentation."
The schools involved in the project were Redlands, St Annes, Prospect, Haggonfields and Priory and every aspect of the medial was discussed.
"This involved newspapers, TV, radio and the internet among others," said Lisa.
"And we explained to them why we need to advertise, why our TV programmes are interrupted, and why there are bill-boards and slogans."
"We were able to explain to them that money generated from advertising helps to keep companies afloat and keeps us informed about a whole host of issues."
To make the sessions even more interesting Lisa and Caroline set up a competition involving designing adverts for a page in the Guardian - something that went down well with the students.
Added Lisa:"Hopefully, giving them practical exercises will help them to understand more about how it all works and remember the sessions we set up for them."
