Hunt for 'flasher' pervert

POLICE are warning Worksop parents to take extra care to keep their children safe after FOUR reports of indecent exposures in just one week.

POLICE are warning Worksop parents to take extra care to keep their children safe after FOUR reports of indecent exposures in just one week.

An 11-year-old girl and her friend were distressed after a 'flasher' confronted them as they were playing trick or treat just yards from their home.

Now police are stepping up the hunt for the man believed to be responsible for all four incidents.

"If somebody is prepared to do this, what else are they prepared to do?" said Sgt Mark Wakeland, of Worksop police. "It could lead to something far more dangerous."

On Monday at 5.30pm an 82-year-old woman opened her front door at her home on Sparken Hill to a man who lowered his trousers and indecently exposed himself.

Officers said she was left traumatised and feeling 'physically sick' after the incident.

Last week a passer-by was confronted by a naked man, aged between 35 and 40, in the Memorial Avenue car park, wearing nothing but a balaclava.

And on Friday night, a man gained the attention of two females walking in the Canch playground by whistling at them and then opening his trousers.

"It is absolutely disgusting," said the 31-year-old mother of one of the young girls who was confronted on Dukeries Crescent, Manton.

"The girls were directly across the road from our house and I had only looked away for a minute. They were in tears and were frightened to go to school the next morning in case it happened again," she added.

The man is described as a white male, about 50-years old, 6ft tall, slim with grey balding hair, wearing a black leather jacket, jeans and black shoes.

Despite it being Halloween and Bonfire Night soon, the parent said she is now too scared to let her daughter go out and have fun with her friends.

"She was just beginning to get her independence but this sort of thing takes their childhood away. You don't think it will happen on your street but it makes you wonder what could happen next."

"My daughter wants to go out and play but it is dark at 5pm now and I'm scared to let her out," she added.

Sgt Wakeland said the incidents were being treated extremely seriously and urged parents to make sure they know where their children are and whom they are with at all times.

"Particularly at this time of year, without spoiling the fun of Halloween and Bonfire Night, parents need to take extra care and supervise their children," he said.

Deputy co-ordinator of Worksop's victim support, Gina Young, said the experience of witnessing an indecent exposure can be very traumatic.

"Being confronted by somebody in this nature often leaves people, especially the elderly, extremely scared and often frightened that it may lead to a sexual assault," said Miss Young.

"The perpetrators are often opportunists and we advise people to avoid walking alone, and to carry personal alarms, which we give out free to the public."

The 82-year-old woman described the man as a white male, around 20-years-old, 6ft tall, wearing a black balaclava.
