Green light for Steetley signals 270 jobs for Worksop
WORKSOP looks set to receive a 270-job boost with the news a legal bid to halt the Steetley concrete manufacturing factory development has been quashed.
The High Court dismissed an application from Steetley resident Claire Littlewood to show Bassetlaw Council had granted permission unfairly to the multi-million pound development.
The decision was taken today following a lengthy three-day hearing - returning the verdict that the council's planning committee had taken all relevant considerations into account.
Costs incurred by the Council in defending the action were ordered to be paid by Mrs Littlewood in a sum not to exceed 50,000.
An application by Mrs Littlewood for permission to lodge an appeal to the Court of Appeal was refused.
Coun Keith Isard, portfolio holder for community prosperity and planning at the council, said he was overjoyed the development could now move forward.
"I am absolutely delighted at the outcome of this case, not just because it vindicates the way in which the Council handled this application, but because of the number of high quality jobs that this development will bring." he said.
"This will provide a significant boost to the local economy. I am also looking forward to progress being made on the next phase of the development which will bring even more benefits to the local area."
