A LEADING councillor has been condemned for backing the use of animal fur in a charity fundraiser.
A LEADING councillor has been condemned for backing the use of animal fur in a charity fundraiser.
Bassetlaw Council chairman Jeff Rickells has been forced to apologise to objectors who attended a fashion show in aid of his chosen charity.
Fur has flown following the use of the controversial material in clothes displayed at the event held in aid of Diabetes UK.
More than 1,000 was raised at Worksop Town Hall show held on 10th November.
But Coun Rickells has incurred the wrath of an opponent to the use of fur at the show, which was sponsored by Worksop's House of Elegance.
"Within minutes of the fashion show starting I was outraged and disgusted that real fur was being flaunted and promoted for sale," said the objector, who wished to remain anonymous.
"I have spoken to Diabetes UK who have no idea that their generous donations from this event are coming from the sales of dead animals' fur."
