Fire at Worksop Chinese restaurant not suspicious

FIREFIGHTERS say that the blaze at a Worksop Chinese restaurant is not being treated as suspicious.

Five fire crews tackled the fire at the Golden Harvest - formerly The Boundary Inn - on Potter Street from about 9am yesterday.

When the 999 call was made, people were reported to be trapped in the building.

A Worksop firefighter told the Guardian that though investigations are continuing into the fire - it is not believed to have been started maliciously.

Notts Police Police closed the road in both directions from the mini-roundabout to St Cuthbert Street.

A team of paramedics was also on standby nearby.

Heather Parkinson, 49, lives on Potter Street and came back from town to find the road a buzz of activity and sirens.

"I am not able to get back into my house at the moment. Though I was allowed to go and get my 13-year-old dog Jasper," she said.

Another bystander added: "I have been watching everything unfold. I heard the sirens and rushed over to see what was happening."
