Drive ban for drunk fiancee

A domestic bust-up in Clowne led to a drink-driving offence.

Police were called to an incident at an address in Chestnut Drive at 10.15pm on 8th February but no-one was at home when they arrived, Chesterfield magistrates heard.

“They were speaking to nearby residents when they heard a vehicle screeching down the road,” said Becky Mahon, prosecuting.

“A Volkswagen Golf pulled up on the driveway of the address police had gone to. The driver had slightly slurred speech.”

Driver Daniel Hollingdrake went on to give a reading of 66mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath - almost double the 35mcgs limit.

Defending, Katie Fowkes, said Hollingdrake had visited his fiancée’s home in Clowne, hoping to enjoy a nice evening with her, but a row blew up after they had both been drinking.

“She stormed out and he went on foot to try and find her. After some time he became worried and he panicked and made the foolish decision to look for her in the car,” she said.

“He drove a short distance and realised this was a mistake. He returned to the address and police were there. No action was taken regarding the incident to which police had been called.”

Hollingdrake, 27, of Sunningdale Croft, Huddersfield, admitted drink-driving and was fined £365, with £85 costs.

He also received a 20-month road ban - to be cut to 15 months if he passes a drink-driving rehabilitation course.
