NOTTS County Council has reinforced its pledge to keep on top of the pothole problem by asking residents to report them.

Last year the County Council spent £2.8 million on repairing potholes and has dedicated an extra £1 million for 2013/14.

“We are busy filling in and repairing potholes all year round,” said Coun Richard Jackson, chairman of the County Council’s transport and highways committee.

“However, it’s just about now that the damage to our roads caused by the winter weather really makes itself known.”

“We’re not alone. It’s a picture that is repeated right across the country.”

The extra £1 million being spent this year will fund the repair of at least 5,000 more potholes in addition to the 36,000 repairs already made each year.

Investment in new techniques and materials will also ensure repairs last longer.

“That figure might look high but we’re determined to keep on top of things,” said Coun Jackson.

“We’re spending more, we’re repairing more and thanks to our online reporting system, we’re identifying more potholes that need fixing.”

To report a pothole go online at www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk or call 0300 500 80 80.
