Council crackdown on illegal parking outside Worksop supermarket

Bassetlaw Council are clamping down on motorists parking on double yellow lines outside Sainsbury's on Newcastle Avenue (w121107-1)

Motorists are being warned about a zero tolerance policy towards parking on double yellow lines outside a Worksop supermarket.

Civil enforcement officers will be issuing fixed penalty notices to drivers parking on yellow lines outside the Sainsbury’s Local on Newcastle Avenue.

The area is designated as ‘no waiting time.’

The move comes after a number of complaints from residents and drivers following congestion and safety issues, with visibility at the junction with Westgate and Newcastle Avenue obscured by parked cars.

Mark Ladyman, director of community services at Bassetlaw Council said: “Newcastle Avenue is one of the busiest roads in and out of Worksop town centre.”

“Motorists ignoring double yellow lines causes traffic hold ups as well as safety issues. With a car park at the back of Sainsbury’s, why risk a £70 fixed penalty notice by parking illegally?”

Sainsbury’s Local has 15 parking spaces and two disabled bays, where customers can park free of charge. Norfolk Street is no designated residents only parking.
