Carlton man fighting for his life after A60 crash

A CARLTON man is fighting for his life after a car crash on the A60 near Oldcotes, yesterday afternoon (Friday).

Three other people were injured in the crash.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “At around 4.38pm on Friday 25th January, a blue Peugeot 206 driven by a 37-year-old man from Carlton in Lindrick was travelling from Tickhill towards Oldcoates, on the A60, Worksop Road, at the junction of Stoney Brigg Farm access road.”

“It is believed that a grey Citroen Picasso driven by a 75-year-old man from Conisbrough, Doncaster was travelling in the opposite direction to the Peugeot.”

“A third vehicle, a black hatchback, driver unknown, overtook the Picasso and pulled back onto the correct side of the road. It is believed the actions of the hatchback has caused a reaction from the Peugeot, which has reportedly lost control and gone sideward’s across the road and into the path of the Picasso.”

The Peugeot driver sustained serious injuries, a broken leg, in the collision and he is currently being treated at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. A passenger in the Peugeot, a 35-year-old man from Carlton in Lindrick, sustained life threatening injuries, a fracture to the spine and a bleed on the brain and he is currently being treated at the Northern General Hospital.

The driver of the Picasso suffered slight injuries, broken ribs and a passenger in this vehicle a 78-year-old woman from Conisbrough also suffered slight injuries, a fractured sternum, both were taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Police urgently want to trace the driver of the unknown small black hatchback that was reportedly involved in the collision. Police believe that this black hatchback was travelling from the direction of Oldcoates to Tickhill at the time of the collision.

Anyone with information to the whereabouts of this vehicle or witnesses can call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 690 of 25th January.
