Bassetlaw Breastcare Appeal fundraising nears target

INNOVATIVE efforts to raise money for the Bassetlaw Breastcare Appeal are still taking place across the district, as the appeal gets closer to its £250,000 target.

Sally Richardson, fundraising coordinator, is ecstatic that so many individuals, groups and businesses are continuing to get behind the cause.

The appeal aims to raise enough money to extend breastcare facilities at Bassetlaw Hospital.

"It's absolutely fantastic that so many people in our community have contributed to the appeal," she said.

The latest fundraising donation came from cycling enthusiast Joe Whitaker, who took on a gruelling trip from Land's End to John O'Groats to raise 3,500 for the appeal.

Future fundraising efforts are teeing off tomorrow, Saturday 20th September, with the Roman's Rest Charity Golf Day, where men and women will battle it out on the golf course.

Everyone is invited to a special charity auction, which will take place at about 6pm at the Roman's Rest pub at Worksop's Celtic Point, where there will be prizes for all – not just golf lovers.

Also a special Race Night will be taking place at Worksop's Best Western Lion Hotel on Saturday 4th October at 7pm.

Hotel general manager Tina Pearson said people can buy tickets now for just 10 per person and the night will include a traditional pie and peas supper.

One of the biggest events coming up on the Breastcare Appeal calendar is the Grand Ball to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Diana Mammography Suite at Bassetlaw Hospital.

The special event will take place at Ye Olde Bell, Barnby Moor, with tickets costing 40 to include a four-course meal, live music and a raffle and auction.

Breastcare consultant Kadappa Kolar is appealing to anyone who has worked at the breastcare unit, or been a patient there, to reunite in the name of the appeal for this evening of luxury.

l If you are interested in coming to the ball or any of the events above, you can call Sally on 01909 502767 or email sally.richardson@dbh.nhs.uk.
