Bassetlaw Council Remembrance Parade

Worksop will hold its Remembrance Day Parade and Service today (Sunday 11th November 2012).
The Parade, arranged by Bassetlaw Council, will be led by the Worksop Miners’ Welfare Band and will ‘form-up’ in the New Market Square in front of the Town Hall, Potter Street at around 10.15am under the direction of the Parade Marshall Sergeant Neil Orton.
The Parade will then be inspected by the Deputy Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, the Honourable Judge John Machin and the Chairman of the Council, Councillor Ian Campbell.
At approx 10.40am the Parade will ‘march off’ from the Market Square down to the War Memorial via Potter Street and Watson Road.
The Act of Remembrance and wreath laying will take place at 11am followed by a short service conducted by Father Nicolas Spicer. The Worksop Salvation Army Band will play ‘The Last Post’ and the ‘Reveille’.
Following the service at the War Memorial, the Parade will proceed to the Priory Church, for a further service where the Standards will be presented.
Everyone is welcome to attend the Service at the Priory Church.
At approximately 12pm, the Parade will reform and march back to the Market Square via Memorial Avenue, Watson Road and Potter Street for Parade dismissal.
Bassetlaw Council chairman Coun Ian Campbell said: “The 11th of November is a time for the whole country to remember and pay respects to those that have lost their lives defending this country and the liberties that we now enjoy.”
“I hope everyone in Bassetlaw will be able to attend their nearest service and join me in remembering and honouring the sacrifice our forces make every day.”
The Royal British Legion flag has been flown at Worksop Town Hall all this week to mark Remembrance Sunday.
The flag, which will have been in place for a week, will be replaced with the Union flag at half-mast on Sunday 11th November. The Union flag will then be raised to full mast following the two minutes silence at 11am.
Coun Campbell added: “It is important to remember the hard work that The Royal British Legion carries out, not just around Remembrance Day but every day of the year.”

“The flying of the Royal British Legion flag and the wearing of poppies is our way of showing supporting.”
