Prospect Kilton Children's Centre unveil wooden tiles (w120216-2c)

COMMUNITY spirit blossomed for families as a brand-new art project was unveiled at Prospect Kilton Children’s Centre.

Parents and children began work on The Big PK Art Project last October to express what the centre means to them and the community.

Led by Blyth artists Chris and Susanna Rose, they created special messages during National Family Week which were etched on to giant wooden leaves.

The artwork now takes pride of place on the walls outside the children’s centre.

Community involvement manager Trese Martin said the project had left a ‘lasting legacy’ for the community.

“It is fabulous - everybody has been up taking photos and they are so proud of it - they never envisaged it would look like this,” she said.

“There have been lots of lovely comments from parents on how their children’s children will be able to come up to the centre in years to come and read the special messages they wrote.”

Trese added the project fitted nicely in with the centre’s strong links with St Augustine’s Infants and Junior Schools.

“We are in the middle of both schools so it shows how the children ‘branch out’ from being babies to children,” she said.

Children are now enjoying a new Green Project linked with Idle Valley Nature Reserve in Retford, all designed to teach them about the environment.

Said Trese: “We have a whole range of activities going on to cater for a variety of groups.”

“We also run a Well Baby clinic and have a rolling programme called Futures which is linked to Connexions to help people with things such as CVs and job applications. “
