1950's day to mark dignity day at Althorpe Lodge Nursing Home in Dinnington G130202-4b
A DINNINGTON nursing home was transported back to the 50s on Friday as residents and staff celebrated Dignity Day.
Athorpe Lodge was awash with Pink Ladies and T Birds as staff dressed up to make the event as memorable as possible for the residents.
“It was to celebrate the respect we have for our lovely residents, and to take them back in time,” said activities coordinator Lizzie Rennocks.
“We had an entertainer in the morning doing songs from that era, and then we another entertainer and a dance-off competition in the afternoon.”
And to help remember the day for years to come, resident Harold Shaw planted a purple flowering tree in the nursing home grounds.
Athorpe Lodge holds an event to celebrate Dignity Day every year.
It gives everyone the opportunity to contribute to upholding people’s rights to dignity and provide a truly memorable day for people receiving care.
Dignity Day aims to ensure people who use care services are treated as individuals and are given choice, control and a sense of purpose in their daily lives.
“It was really nice to see all the staff take part and dress the part to make it a really special day for the residents,” added Lizzie.
“It was an amazing day and we have a lot of positive feedback from residents and families.”
