When Isabelle Merrills decided to write to the Queen, her mum warned her she probably would not get a reply.

So when an official envelope addressed to the eight-year-old complete with Royal seal arrived at her home on Thievesdale, Worksop, the Prospect Hill Junior School pupil could not contain her excitement.

Isabelle decided to drop a line to the Queen after her mum Katie went to London and brought her a pencil back.

In her letter, Isabelle quizzed the Monarch about life in the capital and also asked for an insight into life in the Royal family.

“When Isabelle said she wanted to write to the Queen, I didn’t discourage her but I did warn her not to expect a reply,” said Katie.

“She decided she wanted to know what it is like to be queen and what it is like to be royal.”

“I never thought she would get a reply so it was a shock when this official letter was delivered to our house.”

“It was very official looking with a special seal on it and was obviously addressed to Isabelle.”

“She was so excited andsaid she had to wash her hands before opening it!”

The letter was written by the Queen’s Lady In Waiting and in it said Her Majesty wanted to thank Isabelle for her interest in the Royal family and for using her with her new pencil to write to her.

Katie added: “The Queen was the first famous person Isabelle had written to but now she says she wants to write to William and Kate to congratulate them on the birth of their new baby.”
