New headteacher appointed for Worksop College

A NEW headteacher has been appointed for Worksop College.

Gavin Horgan will take up the role from September 2012 following the retirement of Roy Collard.

Mr Horgan joins from The Glasgow Academy where he is currently the deputy rector.

He was educated at Stonyhurst College and then Oxford University where he read Classics at Exeter College.

After qualifying as a teacher at reading University he worked in schools across the UK and oversees. More recently he held senior teaching and management positions at St George’s College, Buenos Aires and at Archbishop Tenison’s School in London.

As well as being a winter mountain leader, Gavin has extensive experience of voluntary work, most notably as a consultant to War Child, as chair of Lambeth Police Safer Neighbourhoods Consultative Committee, as consultant to the Jubilee Action Charity and as a translator for the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Mr Horgan is married to Alison, an English teacher, and they have an 18 month-old son, Frederick.

The Governors are confident that in Mr Horgan we have a talented, experienced and indeed inspirational leader who will take our newly unified school on to even greater success and achievement.
