Have your say

There is never a good time to hear your job is under threat - but in the build up to Christmas it can seem even worse.

Having to prepare for the festive period while anxious about the future of your job is something none of us would want to face.

But workers at Wilko in Worksop have been dealt this unseasonal blow with news the company is putting a number of roles in head office, supply chain and retail departments under consultation at their Worksop base.

As one of the town’s major employers, this is exactly what Worksop does not need.

As the economy improves nationally we are seeing inconsistent jobs news locally.

There has been plenty of good news recently - and in this week’s Guardian we reveal that a local pub is taking on 20 new staff.

Plus the overall unemployment figures continue to fall across the East Midlands.

But the town can ill afford one of its major companies to start losing staff as we look to recover from the recession and make the town more prosperous.
