This week the Worksop Guardian proudly signed up to join #Team500 , the supporter-led campaign to save the Tigers.

The past couple of weeks have been a tumultuous time for Worksop Town, but it has been great to see fans and others in the community to rally behind the club in this time of need.

A real community spirit is being shown, and that is what this whole thing is about, it is about a lot more than just football.

I remember a few years ago going on a stadium tour of the incredible Camp Nou, home of FC Barcelona.

The most striking thing about this enormous stadium is the words that are emblazoned on the seats of one side of the ground ‘Mes Que Un Club’ which translates to ‘More Than a Club’. This is their motto, their ethos. It is a community, intrinsic to the fabric of the city.

This is exactly what Tigers can be to Worksop. You may think me mad for comparing Worksop Town to the mighty FC Barcelona, but the basic principle is the same. And it is this principle that is so important.

A well-run, community focused football club can make such a difference to a town.

It goes well beyond the fortunes of the first team. Just as importantly it is about the grassroots, and the sense of pride that a successful club can instill in a community.

This is why our football team - the fourth oldest club in the world let’s not forget - needs YOUR support.

As fantastic as the hardcore group of fans are, they can’t do it on their own.

The club needs cash, and it needs it fast.

That is why I urge all local businesses and individuals who can afford it to follow the example of the Worksop Guardian

and sign up to #Team500.

It is in the interests of the whole town that our football club survives.

Remember, Worksop Town FC - more than just a club.
