Ambulance services across the East Midlands are urging people to take responsibilty and be careful in the sun after a rise in the number of calls during the recent heatwave.

Paramedic and operations support manager Steve Pratten said: “We received over 2,600 emergency and urgent calls last Saturday - a 15% increase in calls compared to the previous Saturday.” He urged people to stay hydrated and covered up, to use sunscreen and keep an eye on children and the elderly. If you feel unwell and continue to do so, expert medical advice is available from your GP out of hours service, 111 or NHS Direct on 0845 46 47 or local pharmacy.
