Dinnington slimmers have raised £400 for a leading cancer charity after holding their own Slimming World does Race for Life event on Saturday, August 1.

The 20 participants, who have lost a whopping combined weight of almost 50st, are all members of the Dinnington Slimming World group and held their own 3 miles event to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The group were cheered on at the event by friends, family and other people from the local community, some of whom also took part themselves.

Kath Naylor, who runs the Dinnington Slimming World group every week at the Scout Hut on Laughton Road, said: “It was a fantastic event and the atmosphere was buzzing.

“We saw participants young and old enter, with a broad range of different abilities and fitness levels.

“I’m so pleased with how much we raised for Cancer Research UK and I think the event showed people just how motivating being part of a group like ours can be.

Kelly, a member who has lost 2 1/2 st since January, said: “I walked and ran the 3 miles in memory of my Dad. It’s a cause very close to my heart and it was really important to me to cross that finish line.”

Money raised will go towards helping Cancer Research UK to fund pioneering, life-saving research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

The Dinnington group’s event was part of a wider national series held by all Slimming World groups between July 19 and August 8.
