Dinnington: Knockout success for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice’s latest fund-raising event proved to be a knockout success as families and friends revelled in the summer sun.

The charity, based in North Anston, held It’s A Knockout - based on the 1970s TV show - at Dinnington Rugby Club on Saturday 12th July.

Now in its second year, the event included a tug-of-war, children’s relay races, fancy dress costumes, wacky games, craft stalls, live entertainment, mini fairground rides, face painting, tombola and a raffle.

Local businesses signed up to different activities in teams of either 10 or 12 after raising £1,000 in sponsorship.

Julie Hampson, corporate fundraiser at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice said: “Last year’s It’s A Knockout was fantastic day with a lot of fun and laughter so we decided to do it again.”

“As a business challenge it’s a great opportunity for companies to sign up to a different type of team building day, while at the same time helping your local children’s hospice.”

The hospice provides care for children and young people with a shortened life expectancy. To provide care and support services the charity needs to raise £3 million a year.

Telereal Trillium who have supported the hospice since 2012 and raised over £15,000 entered a team from their Leeds Customer Service Centre after previous visits to the hospice.

Irene Smyth, CSC Manager at Telereal Trillium, said: “As a team we have visited the hospice on several occasions as volunteers where we have worked in the garden painting, building and cleaning.

“After our initial visit we were inspired to help the charity further and signed up a team for the It’s A Knockout event”.
