Worksop Remembrance Day Parade and Service, arranged by Bassetlaw District Council, will take place on Sunday 9th November 2014.
The Parade will ‘form-up’ in the Old Market Square in front of the Town Hall at around 10.15am under the direction of the Parade Marshall Sgt Neil Orton.
The Parade will then be inspected by the Deputy Lieutenant of Notts, Mr William Parentè and the chairman of the District Council, Coun Gillian Freeman.
The Worksop Miners’ Welfare Band will play during the inspection.
At approx 10.40am the Parade will ‘march off’ from the Market Square down to the War Memorial via Potter Street and Watson Road.
A short wreath laying Service and Act of Remembrance conducted by Father Nicolas Spicer will take place at the War Memorial at approximately 10.50am. The Worksop Salvation Army Band will play ‘The Last Post’ and the ‘Reveille’ prior to two minutes silence at 11.00am.
Following the Service at the War Memorial, the Parade will then proceed to the Priory Church for a further service where the Standards will be presented.
Everyone is welcome to attend the Service at the Priory Church.
A special memorial service will be held in Retford’s town centre to mark Armistice day on 11th November.
This year’s event will also mark 100 years since the start of the First World War and extra events have been organised.
A special memorial service will be given by the town’s ex padre Father Bill Berkin.
A drama group from the Elizabethan Academy school will be reenacting the life of some of the heroes named on the town’s memorial wall.
Live entertainment will be provided on the day with trumpeter Josh Ward will be playing The Last Post and Reveille.
This year will see the Town’s Lena Snowden Singers performing a selection of WW1 songs which people used to enjoy singing to get them through the though times of the war.
