There will be dancing in the streets once again in Bassetlaw as the council’s popular ‘Dance in Town’ workshop returns next week.

From 11.30am until 3pm on Saturday 25th June people will be able to witness all kinds of dancing and even have a go themselves on Bridge Street in Worksop.

There will be plenty of different dances on show, including belly dancing, Irish dancing, body-popping and Zumba.

The event is organised by the council’s sports development and fabulous arts teams, and it aims to build on last year’s successful event which saw high public involvement and some groups attract new members.

Coun Julie Leigh, portfolio holder for environment and leisure, wants to encourage everyone to get involved and have a go .

“Whether your style is ‘Strictly’ or ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ you should get involved,” she said.

“This year, it’s bigger and better with more variety, from line dancing to lion dancing, we want to give residents the chance to put their best foot forward, or just turn up and be entertained.”

Exercise and physical activity development officer Alex Porter wants to champion the variety of dance styles being put on show from the schools.

“We’re trying to get people a little bit fitter, while having a whole lot of fun ,” he said.
