A MOTORIST caused £2,500 damage to a golf course during a bungled bid to commit suicide, Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court heard.
Dunham-on-Trent builder Paul Hamlett, 47, drank to give himself “Dutch courage” to end his life and crashed onto the course at Buxton, Derbyshire.
He then fell asleep at the wheel and was found by police on patrol.
Hamlett, of Greenways, The Green, admitted damaging property and failing to provide a breath specimen while in charge of a vehicle on 10th January. He received a one-year probation supervision order, with 100 hours unpaid work and £85 costs. He got 10 points on his driving licence.
