Aged 82 and 80 respectively, the couple met at a dance hall on Central Avenue.

And Ron, who worked in his mum and dad’s convenience shop, didn’t waste any time in making his attraction known.

“She was coming down the stairs and I asked her to go to the pictures with me.”

“Fortunately for me, she said yes,” he said.

The couple have four children, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who they see at every given opportunity.

Vera said: “We used to go dancing a lot but the hall is not there any more.”

“We always liked to go on holiday.”

“In early years we would go to Mablethorpe, and as we got older, we would always make the effort to get over to Great Yarmouth.”

The couple wedded in Worksop at St Anne’s Church, on Central Avenue, on 17th March in 1951.

And, despite the rain on their wedding day, the couple have managed to see off the stormy rollercoaster ride.

“We are a close-knit family and it’s important to stick together,” Vera added.
