A motorist has been disqualified after he was caught driving without a licence and insurance.

Christopher Schaffarczyk, 31, was stopped by police on the A616 Creswell Road, at Clowne, with an expired provisional licence and no insurance cover.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop confirmed police stopped him and he had an expired provisional licence and no insurance.

Schaffarczyk, of Shakespeare Street, Newark, pleaded guilty to driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving without insurance after the incident on May 23.

The defendant said he had finished work and because a colleague’s car would not start he decided to drive his dad’s van.

Magistrates fined Schaffarczyk £325 and ordered him to pay £35 costs and a £32.50 victim surcharge.

He was given eight points on his licence and banned from driving for 12 months.
