PLANS are well underway for one of the highlights of Gainsborough’s summer calendar - but YOUR help is needed.
This year’s Riverside Festival will have the theme ‘Gainsborough Goes For Gold’ to tie in with the London 2012 Olympics and will take place on Saturday 16th June from 12pm - 10.30pm.
As the event starts to take shape, organisers are appealing for volunteers, sponsorship and local bands.
Gainsborough Town Council activities officer Gary Cooke said that it promised to be another excellent event.
“We realise that we are in the midst of difficult economic times, but we once again need to appeal to local businesses to help us put on an action-packed, fun-filled day that helps bring our community together,” said Gary.
“The Riverside Festival is always special because anyone of any age can take part or just sit back and enjoy the shows and all of the activities and entertainment are completely free.”
He continued: “Last year, we had a very special reason to celebrate as it was the tenth anniversary of the festival. The day was a perfect celebration of the event’s success and we hope this year can be bigger and better than ever.”
Gary added: “We are grateful for any amount of sponsorship, whether in cash or in kind - it really does not make a huge difference to whether certain aspects of the festival happen or not.”
“Last year’s festival proved to be very popular, but the committee had to spend a very significant part of it’s funds to put this on. This is why we really appreciate any support that you can give to the festival.”
Riverside Festival committee chairman Tim Davies said that Gainsborough residents should expect another unforgettable day with lots of events and activities going on around the town.
“Every year, without fail, The Riverside Festival always brings lots of enjoyment for everyone,” he said.
“It will be a fantastic day put on by local volunteers who have given many hours of their time throughout the year.”
He added: “We are also still in need of local bands or talented groups who would like to perform on the day - they always go down a storm and do the town proud and it’s the perfect opportunity to impress the thousands of visitors that the festival brings to the riverside.”
“Everyone is invited to get stuck in and I’d also like to add that if any local businesses can help in any way, shape or form then that would be greatly appreciated.”
Any businesses who can lend their support will get a listing in the programme (of which 5,000 are distributed), on the website, posters and all other publicity produced.
Sponsors can also request to have a promotional banner put up at the festival.
