Bassetlaw: Mann will tackle world’s highest active volcano in gruelling 16 day charity climb

From May 25th to 10th June, the Bassetlaw MP will be climbing the equatorial summits of Iliniza Norte, Cayambe and Cotopaxi in Ecuador- which boasts a height of 19,347 feet.

He will be accompanied by injured soldiers and two other MPs in a bid to raise £10,000 for the Battle Back centre. The Battle Back centre is a military initiative which helps to rehabilitate armed forces personnel both physically and psychologically after they have suffered an injury or illness

John Mann MP said: “I am very proud to be part of this expedition, which will be a real challenge for an important cause.”

“The group includes Private Paul Hunter, who is still serving with the Mercian Regiment. Private Hunter was severely injured by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan in 2010.

Lyndon Chatting-Walters, who spent seven years with 9 Parachute Squadron and was wounded in an ambush in Afghanistan in 2008, will also be joining us.”

“Both Private Hunter and Lyndon Chatting-Walters have spoken of how crucial the Battle Back Centre was for their physical and psychological rehabilitation following their traumatic experiences in combat. It is a privilege to join them to raise money for the scheme which helped them after their active service.”
