DESPITE what looked like being a slow start to the Marks and Spencer launch - hordes of eager shoppers turned up.
At 10am on Wednesday (5th), M&S resumed trading after a 17-year absence in Worksop.

And the town pledged its support for the premium retailer by joining the opening-day queues.

Their original store in Bridge Place – now occupied by Iceland – closed in August 1990, prompting widespread anger and disappointment.

At the time, the store was criticised for abandoning the town in favour of Meadowhall – and it emerged shortly afterwards that M&S felt they could have stayed in Worksop with just a food store, rather than a larger food and clothing outlet.

But their return has been eagerly anticipated, and their store in the showpiece new-look Priory Centre is expected to be hugely popular with shoppers.

The retail and food giants were one of the key names signed up for the new £7 million shopping development in the heart of Worksop town centre.

Staff have been busy training off-site in preparation for the busy festive rush.

Shoppers at Wednesday's opening will get bubbling glasses of bucks fizz, as well as soft drinks for children.

The M&S opening ties in with the new Priory Centre's official launch. Also situated in the new mall are Costa Coffee, New Look, Poundworld, mobile phone firm 3 and the Jewel Box.
