Witness appeal after fatal road collision on A1

Notts Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the A1 in Nottinghamshire on Thursday 14th August 2008.
The incident happened at around 1220hrs and involved a blue Vauxhall Vectra and a male pedestrian on the A1 at Blyth.

The man was crossing the southbound carriageway from the direction of Blyth Services when he was in collision with the Vauxhall Vectra.

He suffered multiple serious injuries and was taken to Bassetlaw District General Hospital for treatment.

The man, who has been named by police as Joseph Waggitt, aged 34, of Leam Lane Estate, Gateshead, Tyne & Wear, died of his injuries on the evening of Friday 22nd August 2008.

The driver of the Vectra, a 56 year-old man from the Durham area, was treated at the scene of the collision for shock.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, has any information relating to it, or was driving in the area at the time is asked to contact Det Sgt James Greely at Nottinghamshire Police's Crash Investigation Unit on 0115 9670999 ext 2225.
