A COSTHORPE man died from his injuries after stepping out in front of a learner driver.
John Ellis, of Doncaster Road, died in Bassetlaw Hospital on 15th January from bronchial pneumonia, contusions to the brain and a fractured skull.

Five days earlier, the 82-year-old stepped into the path of Charlotte Taylor, a learner driver with
BSM.

Martin Gotheridge, deputy coroner for Notts, recorded a verdict of accidental death at Nottingham's Coroner's Court on Wednesday.

The inquest was told how Miss Taylor was taking part in a lesson driving from Worksop to Bircotes through Carlton.

She was coming out of a 30 mph limit in the village entering Costhorpe and a 40mph area when Mr Ellis stepped out in front of her.

"I was on my lesson driving through Carlton when I noticed Mr Ellis on the side of the road looking over his shoulder," said Charlotte of Lancaster Walk, Worksop.

"He then suddenly stepped out in front of the car and I braked - but there was nothing more I could have done."

In summing up, Mr Gotheridge gave his sympathy to Mr Ellis' family.
"The BSM learner driver car was being driven in the normal manner but we will never know why he stepped out into the path of the car."

"I am pleased to know that Charlotte Taylor has now passed her test and hope this accident doesn't put her off from driving in the future."

"But there was nothing the driver or instructor could have done to avoid hitting Mr Ellis," he added.
