A COSTHORPE 32 year old, who died suddenly after suffering a heart attack, was remembered by his parents this week as a 'passionate and caring son'.
Dirk Stewart, of Costhorpe Villas, died at Bassetlaw Hospital on Sunday 3rd August after being discovered by friends in bed unconscious.

He was treated in the intensive care unit at the Kilton Hill site, where it was discovered that Dirk had suffered a heart attack. He later suffered a second heart attack and died.

And this week, Dirk’s parents Margaret and Bob, said they did not know how life would continue without their son.

“He went to hospital and never regained consciousness,” said Mrs Stewart, 52. “We are absolutely devastated. He is part of our family and we will never be able to see him again - I don’t know how we are going to cope without him because we loved him so much.”

Dirk’s family have not yet been told what caused the heart attacks, but an inquest into his death was opened at Nottingham Coroner’s Court on Wednesday this week.

“He was such a caring person and would help anyone at a drop of a hat. He will be missed by his family and friends so much,” said Mrs Stewart.

Dirk, who had two brothers, Nathan, 34, and Benjamin, 31, attended Worksop’s St Augustine’s Infant School before being educated at Valley Comprehensive.

“He always had lots of friends and he did well at school. He excelled at art and drawing and also loved skateboarding. He loved cooking - he would buy every herb and spice you could think of to make lots of different recipes,” said Mrs Stewart.

After leaving school, Dirk became increasingly interested in the bible and frequently attended Worksop’s New Life Church on Plantation Hill, and was baptised there in his early 20s.

Dirk’s inquisitive nature saw him work around the world, including a spell working in road construction in Germany with his brother Nathan and serving tourists in a bar in Greece with his brother Benjamin.

“He was very respectful to others but he did become ill for a good few years, which affected his life quite a lot and he could not really work,” said Mrs Stewart.

Dirk’s funeral will take place at Langold Christian Community Church at noon on Tuesday 19th August. Family and friends will meet at Hill Top Club in Langold at 11.45am.
