WORKSOP plumber Renny Myles was crowned the new World Freestyle Championship Mountain Boarder last weekend at an international competition in Gloucester.
The heavens opened for the 'Fat Face Night Air' contest – but that did nothing to deter Renny who competed alongside 60 UK and international riders.
It was the fifth year running that Renny, 22, entered the competition which in 2007 took him out of training for six months when he suffered an injury.
"I did break my leg last year doing it and I have only come fourth in the past, so I was very pleased to win," he said.
"I skate most weekends and I will definitely be going back next year to defend my title."
Mountain boarding is one of the world's fastest growing extreme sports, similar to skateboarding and often likened to snowboarding on wheels.
The contest saw competitors battle it out on slopes littered with obstacles and jumps.
The moves were then judged by a panel of five judges who gave skaters each a score out of 100.
"I don't know what my final score was and didn't really care to be honest. I was just pleased to win," said Renny, of Hardwick Village, Clumber Park.
This year judges included previous world champions Fat Face team rider, Tom Kirkman, Alex Downie, Leon Robbins, Lewis Wilby and Nicky Geerse.
During the contest Renny gave a solid performance in every round, with a 360 degree spin at the top of the course, a back flip with grab and tweak and enough speed to hit the last kicker with a 360 spin off the last jump.
"It was a bit of a brave run really," he said. "But I just went down the hill, over the jumps and it all worked out – I didn't plan it."
"It feels great to be World Champion and I can't wait to defend the title next year. It was a great event, great international riders and a superb turn out."
Ian William, Fat Face event manager said Renny did "fantastically well".
"Massive congratulations to Renny for his outstanding performance on the slopes," he said.
"With the weather making the race course muddier and muddier as the event went on, Renny pulled out all the stops for some show stopping moves," he said.
"This has been the best turnout from UK and international riders yet, with Siberia, Japan, Australia, USA, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland and France all represented."
