RED-FACED Ranby Prison chiefs are keeping tight-lipped about how a man serving six years for drug dealing was allowed to escape in a bin lorry last week.
Mark Chung is still at large this week after he managed to smuggle himself out in the truck last Thursday morning.
He jumped out and completed his escape when the lorry got to Sandy Lane in Worksop.
The lorry driver saw him run off towards Worksop Town's football ground.
A massive helicopter search of the area followed and CCTV footage was poured over, but to no avail.
It has not yet been revealed exactly how he managed to bypass prison security and this week both Ranby Prison and the Home Office refused to comment or move to allay public fears it could happen again.
Chung is still at large and although Notts Police believe he has now left the area, they are warning people not to approach him if they do see him.
South Yorkshire and Merseyside detectives are also working on the case, as it is thought he might have travelled to his home in Toxteth, Liverpool, or to Sheffield where he also has links.
The 31-year-old, began his sentence in March 2005 after being convicted of drug supply and was sent to Ranby, a category B/C prison, which the Home Office describes as a place where escape needs to be made very difficult or where inmates cannot be trusted in more open conditions.
Residents living nearby the prison have said this week that problems are very unusual and that if a prisoner is thought to still be in the area, a special network is set up to alert locals.
Bassetlaw councillor Elizabeth Yates lives in Ranby. Speaking to the Guardian this week, she said nobody in her ward has come to her with concerns about safety.
"We have lived here for 24 years and the prison has been a good neighbour," said Coun Yates.
"I have met with some of the people who run it and I was very impressed," she said.
"It's not a worry for us who live close to the prison and although there have been escapes before we have never had a problem with it."
"I am also a Babworth parish councillor and the escape was mentioned briefly at our meeting this week but we didn't spend a great deal of time talking about it."
Chung was wearing a grey t-shirt, stone or khaki coloured shorts, black socks and white trainers with blue markings at the time of his escape.
He is described as white, around 5ft 9in tall, of medium build, with dark hair which is shaved short.
Anyone with information about the escape or of Chung's whereabouts is asked to contact Notts Police on 0115 967 0999.
