WORKSOP firefighters were taken for a ride last Saturday night when a reveller clung to the back of one of their fire engines as they drove through the town centre.
As the crew travelled along Bridge Street between 10pm and 11pm, a man leapt on the back of the vehicle.
This image was captured by a local bar worker, who says that this sort of behaviour is becoming common place in the town centre and told the Worksop Guardian that 'the stupidity of local drunks is dangerous'.
The crew had been called to put out a bin fire behind a Bridge Street store when the incident happened.
Worksop firefighter Nick Hopkins said that in the last few months, cameras have had to be fitted to the side of their fire engines to deal with unruly youngsters.
"We often get youths climbing on the back of our engines and hanging on to the ladder, usually when we are called out to rubbish fires and car fires," said Mr Hopkins.
He warned that anyone who jumps on to the back of a fire engine could be arrested.
"They are interfering with the duties of the emergency services. Next time we are needed for a fire and we get delayed because of this kind of ridiculous behaviour, it may be their family member of friend that needs help."
Notts Police have also issued a stern warning.
"This is highly irresponsible behaviour and clearly, he could have seriously injured or even killed himself," said a Notts Police spokesman.
"I would warn anyone who thinks about doing this that they are stopping the emergency services from doing their jobs and they could be arrested."
