WORKSOP and Retford firefighters spent nearly 10 hours putting out a blaze at a factory in the town on Monday.
Thousands of gallons of water were pumped from the Chesterfield Canal onto the Vesuvius premises off Sandy Lane after a fire started in the early hours of this morning.

The site, on Shireoaks Road, is currently undergoing demolition.

Fire crews from Worksop and Retford were at the site from around 3.30am until almost 1pm with more than 30 firefighters deployed in total.

Commercial Estates Group (CEG), a developer that specialises in the regeneration of previously used brownfield sites, bought the site in December 2006.

The cause of the fire is still unknown
