worksop metal band Ziyos are hoping to be picked as top of the crop at a Battle of the Bands final in Sheffield this month.
The five-piece were picked from a handful of hopefuls at last month’s heats and will go head to head with talented acts at The Corporation on Saturday 16th July.
Lead singer Jamie Harris said they were honoured to be picked and are keeping their fingers crossed for D-Day this weekend.
“At the heats they announced the second place first and we all thought they had won,” he said.
“Then they said our name and it just erupted into cheers of joy. We’re really looking forward to the final - as long as we put in a good performance and are happy with what we do we really can’t ask for any more.”
The band, which also includes Rob Patterson (bass), Chris Whitehouse (guitar), Dan Johnson (guitar) and Matt Gray (drummer), formed around 18 months ago.
“It was a bit of fate really. I used to sing but took a break for various reasons. Rob had pestered me for a while to re-form and we did eventually, with a brand-new line up,” said Jamie.
“We always try to put on a stage show and what makes us different is that we have got a melody - you can hear the lyrics.”
“We are trying to be new but we’re also trying to bring back some classic rock.”
Tickets for the final are available from the Frog and Nightgown pub which will also be providing two minibuses on the night.
